ADOPT-A-SCHOOL

Adopt-A-School allows members of Zeta Phi Beta to identify low performing schools and provide assistance in a number of ways to enhance the educational experience, increase test scores and grades. Members purchase supplies and/or equipment, provide volunteer hours, assist with parent engagement programs and work with administrators to identify needs that may be specific to that particular school. Eta Delta Zeta is in partnership with Union Elementary in Shelby, NC  Dr. Pam Merritt is the Principal.

ELDER CARE

Eta Delta Zeta's Elder Care Initiative strives to provide education and awareness about preparing for your senior years. The African American community is least prepared when it comes to retirement, estate planning and understanding the legal and financial preparation needed to care for parents, grandparents and ultimately, for our own long term care. It is a comprehensive program that also focuses on elder abuse awareness, financial peace, supporting the caregiver and volunteering at senior care facilities.  Eta Delta Zeta is in partnership with Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby, NC.

STORK'S NEST

The March of Dimes and Zeta Phi Beta have a cooperative program called Stork's Nest. The program was launched nationally in 1972. This program has both service and educational components. The service is the establishment of a distribution site, the "Nest," where expectant mothers, referred by cooperating hospitals, clinics, and health centers, can get necessary items such as maternity clothes, layettes and furniture at minimal or no cost. The educational component consists of seven sessions covering prenatal care, nutrition, drugs, alcohol and smoking, genetics, infant care and parenting. Eta Delta Zeta hosts a Community Wide Baby Shower program, actively raises money for the March for Babies program and March of Dimes Walk.

What is March for Babies (M4B)?

When our members walk in M4B, we give hope to the more than half a million babies born to soon each year. The money raised for this annual national fundraiser supports programs in our communities that help mothers have healthy, full-term pregnancies; and funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten babies everywhere. March of Dimes (MOD) has been hosting walk events since 1970 and has raised an incredible $2 billion to benefit all babies.

Prematurity Awareness

Zeta Prematurity Awareness Program (ZPAP) occurs annually during the entire month of November in support of World Prematurity Day on November 17th and the March of Dimes. Since 2003, Zeta chapters and auxiliaries reach out to over 300 houses of worship annually across the country and distribute information on prematurity awareness, causes of prematurity and the importance of seeking prenatal care in an effort to decrease infant mortality and the number of low birth weight babies.

What is Get Engaged)?

Zeta engages our communities by raising awareness on key issues, promoting voter registration and mobilization, building relationships with elected officials, and encouraging qualified women and minorities to pursue community leadership positions.

Zetas Have Heart

February is heart month.  Yes, we show our love for family and friends on Valentine’s Day and tell them how much we love them.  Equally as important is our physical heart.  The heart is often associated with love; however, we don’t treat our hearts with love.  If we do not take care of our hearts, we will not be around to enjoy and cherish those things that are important to us.
Heart disease kills more women every year than all cancers combined.  It is actually the number one killer of women.   This is why I thought it was important to develop a program just for you.  We take great care of the community but now it is also time to make our health a priority.  Diet and exercise has been known to reverse the effects of some forms of diabetes, high blood pressure, reduce the risk of stroke and other cardiovascular illnesses, and improve mobility and joint strength.
